Are planning on bringing snacks or foods into the district to offer to more people than just your student? Here are some essential pieces of info you need to know first.
The District Wellness Policy has a peanut and tree nut free district policy that needs to be adheared to. It is also important that these items, as an ingredient are not the only way to expose a child. If you are making items from home, be sure to thoroughly clean all surfaces and items that you need to use and the area is free of peanuts and tree nuts. Last, people who are allergic to these items are often allergic to other items and even though a coconut is not a nut, nut allergy sufferers often also react to that. The second and equally important thing, is that we are under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, so all foods served outside the traditional meal program but including Grab n Go After School but NOT the concession stands, are REQUIRED to test their item to be sure it is Smart Snack compliant per the USDA regulations before serving it.
